Port destroys planned home of
Heavy's HEART
The Barn that was to be the home of Heavy's HEART (Human Earth Animal Rescue Team) was bulldozed by the Port of Houston earlier this year after the Port of Houston received a fraudulent title from American Title of Deer Park, Texas to land owned by Charles Gilliam (also known as Heavy Fed of www.heavyfed.com). The land has been returned, a dwelling, a barn, several trees, a six foot wooden fence, a driveway (including the culvert) and a large amount of antique tools... are all gone. This is not the first time the Port of Houston and Heavy Fed have clashed, before the death of Heavy's grandmother, Irene Gilliam Hensley, the two could often be found at a La Porte City Council meeting opposing the planed Port expansion South of Barbours Cutt Blvd, an expansion that was to eventually encompass the entirety of the family's property. The duo slowed progress for many, many months, objecting to permits issued to the Port by the City. The Port was forced to build a large sound wall and address many drainage and environmental problems because of issues raised by Heavy and his grandmother. Heavy Fed started Heavy's Human Earth Animal Rescue Team (Heavy's HEART) in honor of his grandmother who was active in the La Porte community before her death. She spent her entire life serving the people, plants and animals around her. Heavy continues to carry her torch... lit by a spark from the original flame. Heavy Fed: "I will rebuild my protest barn... in the exact same spot... I will not be bullied by the Port or anyone else, no surrender, no retreat... if they want my property to expand the Port... they are going to have to bury me under it." ![]() ![]() |
